Corporate Controller
The Corporate Controller maintains Homeport’s financial accuracy and economic insight across five lines of business, over 100 legal entities (tax-exempt and taxable), and diverse revenue streams. This role delivers clean audits, consistent financial statements, and reliable cash flow projections to support management, the board, and stakeholders. The Corporate Controller will also lead and develop staff through feedback, performance management, and professional growth opportunities to ensure the success of the Finance Department and the organization.
Duties and responsibilities
Provide daily oversight of Homeport’s financial statement entries and general accounting activities to ensure proper coding for cash receipts, revenue, deferred revenue, expenses, pass-through revenue and expenses, federal funds, and intercompany transactions to support the publication of financial statements and other reporting requirements of funders, investors, and donors.
Oversee organizational cash management including, but not limited to, creating and distributing weekly Cash Position Report; coordination, tracking and supervising of program, operating, capital, and portfolio pools of funds; coordinating cash transactions with attendant database entries; oversight of invoicing and related cash collections.
Manage preparation of monthly financial statements including Operating Statements, Balance Sheets and Cash Flow Statements.
Assist with unique internal department- and program-level reporting as well as with Board of Directors, funder, and lender financial invoices and reports.
Serve as primary liaison between Homeport and external audit firm to provide appropriate schedules and additional analysis in connection with the annual financial audit.
Partner and strategize with department and program leaders on financial results and budgeting as well as with reporting questions and required information.
Oversee monthly bank reconciliations of all affiliate bank accounts including adjusting journal entries.
Serve as finance lead support for all departments, in conjunction with the Real Estate Controller and CFO, during the annual budgeting and quarterly reforecasting activities.
Participate in analyzing financial data and then providing trend, risk, and opportunity insights to set financial strategies, governance, direction, and continuous process improvement for both the finance team as well as for the consolidated organization while understanding and adapting to an ever-changing market environment.
Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing finance team, supporting the Core Values, specific to behavior expectations. Establish performance metrics and goals for the finance team, conducting regular reviews and providing feedback to drive individual and team success.
