Today, Franklin County has over 50,000 “severely cost-burdened” neighbors who pay more than half their income toward their housing costs. Across the entire Central Ohio region, this problem impacts 80,000 of our families.
Thankfully, Central Ohio has a proven track record and research-backed solutions that can fix the problem. That’s why our community is defying the odds and the number of severely cost-burdened households is beginning to come down.
AHACO focuses on three, data-driven pillars to lower housing costs: (1) right-sizing housing construction and preservation, (2) protecting and expanding sustainable homeownership, and (3) supporting economic mobility and stability. With this strategy, we can continue to close our housing gaps and become the first community in the country to truly solve its housing puzzle.

The Plan

How we do It
One Region
Many SOlutions.
Central Ohio has it all. Big cities and small farms. Wealthy communities and struggling towns. Growing families and empty nesters. High earners and low-wages. Our character isn’t about single family homes or multifamily apartments or anything in between, its about caring for our kids, protecting our seniors, and building the jobs of the future.
A smart housing strategy reflects all that diversity, creates and preserves a safe community for everyone. It has just the right tools for every neighborhood.
Our work isn’t about silver bullets or fairytale solutions. It’s about intentional plans, smart investments, and data-driven answers. No one has solved the housing problem, yet. But with the right combination of programs, policies, and commitments we can all work together to keep the Midwest affordable and make sure that Ohio’s economy grows without pushing our families out.
Housing doesn’t have to feel like this. We can solve the problems together.
Ready to get involved? Let’s do it!
Join the Alliance
AHACO’s membership is invitation-only. We carefully curate and balance experts from across the affordable housing ecosystem, all of whom are working to put themselves out of business. It’s not for everyone! The first step to becoming part of our work is to join our Advisory Council. Learn more on the Support Us page.
Help Today
You don’t have to be a member to make an impact. In fact, the only way we can address the roots of the housing challenge is through a big tent and welcoming coalitions. You can view some of today’s most exciting opportunities on our Help Today page, or look at all the happenings on our local housing events calendar.
Take the lead
There are lots of ways you can lead our community forward. For instance, you can host a private screening group discussion of the United film. Or you can host a House Party to kick off a community conversation on your housing needs. Or just show up to a zoning or city council meeting and share your own housing ideas.
