Twin Goals

How Duplexes Can Build Family Wealth & Return Affordability to Central Ohio

Twin Goals follows a young hypothetical couple as they purchase their first home in Central Ohio, exploring how their choice to buy a duplex creates financial opportunities and personal independence as they progress through life and build a family in our community. It conservatively estimates that an Ohioan can earn or save almost $1.3 million over their lifetime as a result of duplex owner-occupancy.

With Central Ohio housing prices rising dramatically, local leaders and residents are increasingly looking to the past for guidance on how to tame today’s costs.

Among the fastest growing trends is a revival of the American duplex. Sought after for its unique ability to blend neighborhood-style housing and economic accessibility, this architectural icon is rapidly emerging as one effective solution to our complex housing challenge.

Twin Goals is the first economic benefits study that quantifies the financial impacts individual homeowners can gain through duplex ownership. It finds that a typical Central Ohio family can reasonably earn or save nearly $1.3 million over their lifetime as a result of duplex owner-occupancy.

Follow along with our hypothetical couple - James & Delaney - as they evolve through their life together as duplex homeowners, parents, caregivers, and neighbors trying to save for their Central Ohio retirement.
