From the editor: Duplexes bring personal and societal benefits, study finds

I have a vested interest in the subject of duplexes because I live in one.

So, I was naturally interested when the Affordable Housing Alliance of Central Ohio released a study last month detailing how duplexes could improve a homeowner’s finances while also alleviating the community’s housing affordability crisis.

The Twin Goals report, developed by AHACO and Scioto Analytics, found that residents who own and live in a duplex can earn or save significant amounts of money throughout their lives.

That’s mainly from renting out the other side, but the groups offer additional scenarios such as moving aging parents next door to save on assisted living expenses or having a college-age child live there to save on housing expenses.
