Small Area Fair Market Rents (SAFMRs) allow Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) to use zip code level data instead of metropolitan area data to set local payment standards for their voucher program. SAFMRs are an important fair housing tool because they allow voucher families to access higher rent neighborhoods. Recently, HUD required 41 new metro areas to use SAFMRs. With this expansion, 45% of all voucher families will be living in areas where PHAs use SAFMRs! Please join NHLP and PRRAC to learn more about SAFMRs including advocacy tips for implementation.
During the webinar, we will discuss the history of SAFMRs, research that supports SAFMR policy, and the SAFMR implementation process. Importantly, we will hear from advocates in areas that have already adopted SAFMRs. Everyone is welcome and this webinar is especially suited for advocates in the new mandatory jurisdictions.
